Beginning with the 1996 Mustang and 1997 passenger cars, Ford began installing Passive Anti-Theft Systems (PATS) in their ECMs. Short of installing all the components and sensors from the donor vehicle to satisfy the anti-theft system, the only way to defeat PATS is by reflashing the ECM to completely remove anti-theft from the ECM.  During the reflashing process, we can set up your ECM for aftermarket fuel pumps, electric fans, reduce fan switch on temperatures, and disable certain emission related sensors if your local smog laws permit it for your swap application. When this is required, the harness listing will mention the requirement in the description.

This process is accomplished through hardware level ECM reprogramming. This reprogramming cannot be accomplished with a typical flash programmer like our SCT products, it requires special hardware and knowledge to accomplish it. With that said, this process does not effect your ability to use our SCT flash products for engine calibration changes without changing PATS disabled status, though you would be removing/replacing any other calibration changes we've made during this service. 

This service covers all Fords we offer harnesses for from 96/97 up to 2004. This includes 4.6 and 5.4 applications as well as others. 

If you want to use a manual transmission or want to use an external trans controller then you need to start with a manual transmission ECM. Auto trans functionality cannot be removed to allow an auto ECM to work with a manual transmission.
