Internal Engine, Suspension, & Drivetrain Components:

Custom CP Forged Pistons (Iron Head/Esslinger Head/Volvo Head)
CP makes the finest 2.3 Turbo pistons on the market, without question. There are other companies that offer pistons for these engines at a lower price but the bottom line is, you don't know what you are missing with those pistons until you see and use a set of CP's. They use the same alloy, machines, and finish work on all of their pistons, regardless of application. This means they are held to the same quality standards from stock replacements to the full on race engines you see in NASCAR, IRL, and endurance racing.

Rings: Ring choice is critical if you want to have long engine life. The excellent factory rings have been discontinued for some time now and there is no suitable exact replacement ring available in the aftermarket. Most, if not all "OE replacement" rings are made of some type of cast ring with a sprayed-on or filled "moly" ring facing. The original turbo 2.3 rings were a ductile iron ring set with a plasma moly facing that would often times last 200,000 miles or more...quite a feat in a heavy T-Bird with a small displacement turbocharged motor.

We've been able to find rings that are made from the same material as the original rings and are then gas nitrited for increased longevity. The "catch" if you want to call it that is that they won't work in standard turbo pistons, so in conjunction with CP Pistons, We've come up with a complete piston and ring package that has the excellent rings and high-quality CP pistons.

Sizing: The standard order piston is made for a 3.800 (.020" over) 3.810" (.030" over) finish bore, stock "D" shaped dish, stock deck height, and stock pin size in order to be used in 2.3 engines retaining the stock stroke. Pistons with specs other than this spec are not stocked and will have a ~4 week delay before shipment.

Custom piston specs not listed are available with different overbore sizes reduced pin height for strokers, custom dish shapes, or different compression heights for different rod/crank combinations. It generally takes 4-6 weeks lead time for a custom set. Custom pistons are special order and require email transactions to get all of the specs right before completing the order. 

Volvo Head Pistons: We now have a piston design available for those of you running the Volvo 16v head. The design accounts for the bore centerline misalignment and utilizes a valve relief large enough to clear the valve in the misaligned bores as well as the aligned bores. It generally takes 4-6 weeks lead time for a custom Volvo set. Custom pistons are special order and require email transactions to get all of the specs right before completing the order. 

If you are serious about making power with these engines and want to build it right the first time, this is the only way to go.

IMPORTANT: These pistons run tighter clearances than most forged pistons and are designed for a specific finish hone diameter, not a generic "forged piston clearance". The quality control is so tight on these pistons that we actually suggest having the block machined without ever giving the pistons to the machine shop. This eliminates the possibility of the "machine" shop trying to change the clearance specs to what "they" think you should run. I've seen it happen way to many times with unsatisfactory results. What would you rather trust, the piston manufacturer's specs or what a machine shop thinks would be best generic spec in all applications? All they need to do is machine a round cylinder with the listed finish bore, nothing else.

2.3 to SBF Bellhousing Adapter Plate
This billet aluminum plate converts any Ford 2.3L OHC engine to the small-block Ford bellhousing bolt pattern. This allows 2.3 owners to run the larger 5.0 Mustang clutch components, T-45, T-56, and other manual transmissions, as well as any of the automatic transmissions available for small block Fords. Adapter use in manual transmission applications will require the use of a zero balance small-block Ford flywheel with a 2.3 crank bolt pattern (also available). Includes all hardware shown, as well as an instruction sheet.

Aluminum Flywheel for 5.0/SBF Clutch on 2.3 Engine
This CNC machined billet aluminum zero balance 157-tooth small-block Ford flywheel with a 2.3 crank bolt pattern is custom made by S.P.E.C Clutches and Flywheels. It is SFI certified and made from 6061 T6 aluminum for ultimate strength and minimal weight. The 1/4" thick friction plate is machined from 1050 high carbon alloy, for incredible durability with any friction disc material, even iron. The plates are secured to the body by aerospace fasteners which were chosen for their exceptional strength and corrosion resistance. When used in conjunction with the adapter plate above, it allows you to run a larger small block ford 10.5" clutch on a 2.3 engine. Stock 2.3 steel flywheel weighs 21 pounds. This aluminum flywheel is only 11.5 pounds. That's a 45% reduction in rotating mass!

This unit is a solid hub version of the stage 3. The hub is solid 8-rivet and the assembly is heat treated for strength and durability. It is available in a 3, 4 or 6 puck configuration. Use the 3 puck for the lightest option or the 6 puck for the smoothest engagement. The 4 puck is a good compromise for both. Street drivable in 6 puck configuration, but not street friendly due to the rigid hub. Best for drag racing, road racing, pulling, rallye and drift.
